FIA GT1 World Championship
8 – 10 June 2012
Slovakia Ring (SVK)
The Reiter Engineering team presented a slightly different driver duo this weekend due to the fact that Dutch Peter Kox was bound to compete in another racing event this weekend. Stefan Rosina (SVK) who knows the Slovakia Ring well took his place. He shared a Lamborghini Gallardo LP600+ with Darryl O´Young (CHN). Albert von Thurn und Taxis (DEU) and Thomas Enge (CZE) shared the second Gallardo.
The three-part qualifying went very well for drivers Thomas Enge and Stefan Rosina. Enge set the fastest lap (2:02.599) ahead of BMW and Audi. Only 0,544 seconds behind, Rosina grabbed P5. Therefore, both secured a place in Q2. Thurn und Taxis and O’Young respectively took over. Grabbing P12 and P13 in their stints, they did not manage to reach Q3.
After Albert von Thurn und Taxis had gained a few places and had handed the Lamborghini over to Tomas Enge, Enge delivered a convincing performance in the qualifying race. The rain and the track conditions did not prevent Enge from gaining quite a few places. He drove across the finish line in P2.
The duo O‘ Young and Rosina were unlucky. Rosina drove across a stone in his stint in the second part of the race which caused a tyre puncture and resulted in the early retirement of the car.
Tomas Enge and Stefan Rosina respectively took over for the start of the championship race on Sunday. Enge did not have a good start from P2 and lost a few places. When he tried to overtake a Ford on the outside in a turn in lap 2 that driver did not notice him. As a result the Ford also went wide at that moment pushing the Gallardo off the track. Enge and Thurn und Taxis were left to watching the rest of the race.
Stefan Rosina pushed right from the start and fought hard. However, due to another tyre puncture he had to make an additional pit stop before the mandatory pit stop. Consequently, Daryll O’Young did not have a chance to close the gap to the cars ahead of him and finished the race in 11th place.
Hans Reiter, team principal:
“Just like the last races, a good Saturday and Sunday not so much. Tomas (Enge) was forced to retire due to an accident which we could not avoid. Stefan (Rosina) showed a strong performance in the race. However, he had another tyre puncture which forced him to go to the pit. And you really have no chance at all with two pit stops in one race“.
The fifth round of the FIA GT1 World Championship in conjunction with the GT3 European Championship will take place in the Algarve from 6-8 July, 2012.
